Artist update: Gabriel Wiese

If you've ever stopped by our gallery, the first thing you may have noticed are some great (and super comfortable) chairs made out of wine corks.

These chairs are designed and constructed by the fabulously talented Gabriel Wiese. To learn more about the artist and his work, take a look at the new video below, made by German broadcast station Deutsche Welle.

While Gabriel is currently showing in Berlin, why not save yourself the 11-hour plane ride and stop by the gallery to see some of his work for yourself?

Happy Earth Day -- Christy Oates e-waste marquetry project

In honor of Earth Day, we bring you two incredible videos created by a Gallery of Functional Art artist, Christy Oates. Christy uses eco-friendly materials while specializing in laser cut veneer marquetry and Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC) technologies in wood.

Stop by to check out her piece "Wallpaper Chair" which transforms from a flat wall piece into a functional chair. Watch the video below to see how it was created.

Process: Wallpaper Chair from christy oates on Vimeo.

This next piece was inspired by discarded equipment at an e-waste center and took 3 months to complete. Watch as Christy takes you through the entire process from start to finish in just a few minutes.

Artist Update: Dave Lovejoy

If you haven't been to the gallery lately, then you should definitely take a look at this slideshow, put together by photographer Laura Chau. It showcases work created by Dave Lovejoy, one of two amazing artists currently showing at Lois Lambert Gallery.

Dave Lovejoy, one of Art in California magazine's "Art Stars of California", has been a working artist since the 1980s and has exhibited in galleries throughout California, Hawaii and Oregon, as well as in shows abroad. Trained as a ceramicist, Dave uses his training to create mixed media pieces using both handmade and repurposed materials.
