Last week was the opening reception for Joanna Bielski's "Gravity Defied", now showing at the Lois Lambert Gallery until July 10.Joanna's recent work is inspired by the contradictions of gravity - the downward, sinking sensation that keeps us happily grounded and also drives us to repel its repressive force in physical, psychological, and spiritual ways. She explores the relationship of the human body to the constraints of gravity, from contorted limbs splayed across the canvas fighting their spatial limitations to resting forms that have gently succumbed to the pull of the earth.
